Hello, I'm Emily – a British painter based in Hampshire, working mostly in oils.

I grew up between Winchester, the French countryside, and the island of Menorca, and have since lived in Sydney and Barcelona. That mix of places – the light, the heat, the slower pace of life outdoors – is probably why I keep returning to Mediterranean coastlines, landscapes and still lifes as my main subjects. I paint what I love, and what I love usually involves warm light.

My favourite way to work is en plein air – out on location, painting from life. I find the liveliness it demands genuinely exhilarating; the light is always changing and you have to make quick decisions. Back in the studio I work on larger paintings, often scaling up from studies painted on location. I'm drawn to colour and the contrasts in light that create it. I try to transmit a specific feeling rather than a faithful record. To capture a moment in time.

I come from an artistic family and am largely self-taught, though I've spent time learning under painters Maria Rose, Piotr Perski, and Ricardo Llopico, all of whom have shaped how I see and work. My greatest inspirations are Joaquín Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, and today's Vicent Pelegero Agustín.

My paintings are part of the ongoing collections at Nadia Waterfield Fine Art in Hampshire and Blue Frame Gallery in Barcelona, and I regularly show my work at other exhibitions and art shows in the UK, including Art for Youth at Mall Galleries, London.
I'm a Friend of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and was shortlisted for Spain's 19th l'Alcora-Ximén d'Urrea Young Painter's Prize.
